Wildhorse Lake

The plan was to meet some friends camping at Wildhorse Lake in Alberta (between Hinton and Jasper). There are a lot of nice dual-sporting trails in the area. The first part of the ride is rather boring - pavement on Hwy 16 heading west out of Edmonton. About 9 miles west of Hinton is the turnoff for Wildhorse Lake. I passed through the campground twice looking for my friends, but they are nowhere to be found. Turns out the campground was full when they arrived the previous day, and had camped at a nearby KOA instead. My friend Bob had forgotten his cell phone, and so we couldn't reach each other. No worries - there's riding to do...
I just started exploring various dirt roads and trails in the area. Mos are fine, but a few are a little gnarly since I still had street-oriented tires on he big GS, but I still rode a bit of single-track as well. I rode into Hinton for lunch, passing the KOA campground where Bob is camped (although I didn't know it at the time). After lunch and getting gas, I head south on Hwy 40 to Cadomin, which is an old mining town - lots of old abandoned houses and structures in the area. I explored the area a bit, and then took Hwy 40 (now the Forestry Trunk Road) south towards Nordegg (about 100 miles). It's late afternoon by the time I reached Nordegg, where I stop for more gas, and then take pavement back to Edmonton. I put another 550 miles on the bike on this ride, and had a great day!
