Elk River Road

It was time for a ride, and I decided to explore the Elk River Road, west of the Brazeau Reservoir, near Lodgepole, AB. The first part of the ride is pavement, south from Edmonton, west on Hwy 39, and south on Hwy 20 past Lodgepole. Just north of the Brazeau Reservoir, Elk River Road heads west towards the Rockies. It starts out as pavement for a few miles, and then it's dirt and gravel.
The road serves the foresty and oil/gas industries, as well as recreational users; and is fairly well maintained. The road rises and falls as it heads towards the Rockies. It's bordered by forest, and the leaves were just starting to change to fall colors. I would occasionally explore a spur road or trail. It was a pretty nice day with temps in the 60's F (about 18 deg C). Eventually the road meets up with Hwy 40, the Forestry Trunk Road, and I headed north towards Robb to get some gas.
From Robb, I headed north on Hwy 47 to Edson, and then took Hwy 16 east back to Edmonton. It was a great leisurely and stress-relieving ride!
