Death Valley Noobs Rally
March 2019
March 2019
The Death Valley Noobs Rally is always a fun gathering of like-minded offroad motorcyclists gathering to explore and ride in Death Valley. One of the goals is for experienced riders to help beginning riders and those new to Death Valley explore the adventure of Death Valley. For 2019, about 200 riders gathered at the Panamint Springs campground to enjoy a long weekend of riding.
On Friday, my friends (Tim and Shawn) and I took a relatively new rider, Kyle, on a long ride around Death Valley and over Steele Pass. We took pavement from Panamint Springs west and then north to our first stop to view the Ubehebe Crater. Then, we continued on Death Valley Road to Eureka Dunes. From there, it gets a bit technical (primarily due to a lot of rocks) over Steel Pass and down to the Saline Valley Hot Springs, and taking Saline Valley Road back towards Panamint Springs.
Friday night, I helped with the BBQ pulled pork dinner organized by a few of my friends in honor of Arnie Fry (a good riding buddy now riding and racing in heaven).
On Saturday, I was the sweeper and Tim led a ride to Chloride Cliffs, with lunch in Beatty, and a stop at Rhyolite on the way back. There are some great views up at Chloride Cliffs, and it's a great ride for relatively new riders - challenging, yet doable. Rhyolite is an abandoned mining town that is now home to some rather unique artwork.
Saturday night is another organized dinner followed by a pretty large raffle of donated prizes from various motorcycle vendors. I was lucky enough to win a pair of Mobius Knee Supports, which I've put to good use!
